NaNoWriMo is here!

Hello all!

I hope the month of November is treating you well. We are now 10 days into NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), and I am over 16,000 words into the complete overhaul of Heart Work. It’s stressful, exciting, and time consuming because you are committing yourself to 1,667 words per day. Some days it’s easier than others to write and hit that goal.

For me, I typically write more than that in any given day, but it’s for my classes. So, not only am I completing classwork, journals, and working on my thesis, but I have now added finishing a 50,000 word novel by November 30 to my plate. I can’t lie, it has been exhilarating, but also stressful. Then there is the pressure to write every single day so as to not fall too far behind the mark. I spent last Saturday night making up the word deficit I found myself in due to classes, my son, and working extra hours.

In regards to Heart Work, you read the top part correctly. After sitting down and going through it, trying to re-work it with the editor how it was, and then revise it in a way that made sense based on how it was didn’t work. So, I made the decision to sit down, re-outline the entire book, tag scenes I could potentially recycle, and start all over again. It was not a decision I came to lightly because I knew it meant possibly pushing back the release date of the book, but the book will be the better for it. And since I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo, my editor suggested I use this opportunity to re-write the book in a month as a fun challenge.

In addition to completely re-writing Heart Work, I have created an account on Locals, and will be working on creating video content there. Some of the content will be free, while other videos will be for subscribers. I have gone back and forth with the idea of posting the videos here as well as on Locals and my Rumble channel, and I haven’t ruled it out yet, but there are some things I have to work on behind the scenes.

In addition to writing project updates and fun posts, I have also decided to share some of my short stories and flash fiction pieces on here. I know I have posted a few already, but as I complete classes at Lindenwood, I’ll post more of those pieces. There is also a good chance I’ll expand on them as well.

For those interested, you can find me on the NaNoWriMo website under the user name “TheMegLife.”

Hope you all are doing well!

Maghan
